Flanagans Restaurant, O'Connell Street, Dublin Review

At 10am on Wednesday the 21st of September 2011, I was walking along O’Connell Street when I spotted a sandwich board advertising a five-Euro breakfast at Flanagan’s steak house on O’Connell Street.
I thought the five-euro breakfast sounded too good to be true and so I endeavoured to find out.
I entered Flanagan’s steak house and I was greeted by a polite young man who appeared enthusiastic about his work, the young man showed me to a table and very quickly thereafter a pleasant young lady took my order.
I was promptly supplied with a pot of tea that poured three good cups, ample milk and sugar.
Flanagan’s presents clean and well maintained. As I waited I decided to browse the menu that was on the table, however, the menu was for the Bistro lunch as opposed to breakfast, this was not an issue for me as I was set on the five-euro breakfast, however, someone else may well have desired an up-grade if a breakfast menu had been provided.
Flanagan’s has a rustic décor with clean cream and brown clay baked bricks along the lower wall and clean white spaces on the upper half of the wall, the wall is periodically decorated with well-chosen and professionally framed prints of many of Dublin’s most popular attractions. The background music was easy and the ambiance was one of comfort and relaxation.
Flanagan’s was busy and staff remained at all times professional and courteous.
Food
The Breakfast consisted of a three-cup pot of tea, bacon, sausage, beans, egg, and slice of toast all of which were perfectly cooked and nicely presented. Two other portions were also on offer as substitute ingredients, tomato and mushrooms.
This was a well cooked, well presented hearty breakfast for exactly five-Euro and one would search high and low in Dublin to find better value for money.
Toilets
The toilets presented functional and clean, however, there did appear to be a discrepancy between the wall ‘check-list’, for example, who checked the toilets and when, according to the check list the toilets had just been checked, yet there was toilet tissue on the floor, the lid was off the small bin and the floor was wet.
Bill
The bill as stated was five-Euro in total. However, there was no follow up literature given upon departure, for example, a business card sized Bistro menu or simply business card that could be passed on or retained for future visits.
Overview
Flanagan’s steak house, O’Connell Street, Dublin, is a well-established eating house with a solid reputation; however, it must not rest on its laurels. The staff are friendly and professional, the food is well cooked, promptly delivered and good value for money. The bathroom presents clean and functional, however, closer supervision of the check-list is advised.
